The Greater San Jose Alternative Education Collaborative (AEC) provides an opportunity for teachers in alternative education to gain assistance with classroom excellence through our Teach for Excellence Mini-Grant Program. This year AEC launched its 2nd Annual 2007 Teach for Excellence Mini-Grant Program to provide direct assistance to teachers and students in the classroom. Teachers of students in grades 6 through 12 in the alternative education community were invited to submit lesson plans that would show innovation and creativity in fostering education and encouraging students’ enthusiasm to learn.

The AEC received a total of 32 applications from 12 different schools. During the current cycle, 28 Teacher Mini-Grants were awarded. Funds of up to $500 were disbursed to each school district in February.

The AEC would like to thank the many teachers who submitted applications, as well as members of the educational community that assisted with the process of improving the application process, disbursing information, and volunteering feedback. This is the second successful year of the Mini-Grant Program and AEC hopes to continue this trend of putting money in the classrooms to help educators make a difference with their students.
